FPXCJ “Xoplnts” LP

South African Electronica pioneers Jurgen Kuhnel and Carl Albrecht have a long history of collaboration dating back to even before 1997, a time when laptop musicians and DAW´s were a thing of the future. Years later (and after parting ways in 2000), their respective solo projects Fremen Production and ColonelJ have regrouped as FPXCJ, debuting on JST with a forward thinking, yet eclectic 9 track album titled “XOPLNTS”. Still heavily influenced by IDM´s formative years, yet obsessively involved with the technological advancements made since then, FPXCJ are focused on reviving the optimism of 90´s Electronica and infusing it with as much new depth as their multithreaded CPU´s allow. Distilling a range of 90´s IDM influences into a carefully arranged compilation of intricately sculpted electronic music, FPXCJ’s album opens with “Electric”, an optimistic view of a future where self-taught machines save the earth from environmental catastrophe. It speaks of machine emotions and sensitivity, a theme that rings throughout “XOPLNTS”.
